Austria - Lakes & Mountains
A couple of visits here, the first of which was to Lech am Arlberg, a mountain village in the Austrian Tirol, in September 2018. Best known as a ski resort, Lech is a great place for summer walking or mountain-biking, with an extensive lift system and trails which criss-cross the landscape.
The second visit took place the following year, this time to the lakes, and St Gilgen, situated on Lake Wolfgang, an hour’s drive from Salzburg. Famous for its association with Mozart, the town is full of Baroque and Rococo character with colourful streets lined with cafés, shops and old frescoed houses that lead to the onion-domed church.
Both great places for walking - Lech more for the mountains whilst St Gilgen had Lek Wolfgang and kilometers of marked trails and wonderful viewpoints across the lake - particularly from the Zwolferhorn which towered over the town.
